Voting in local elections

Several of you have asked for more information about registering to vote in local elections so here are some FAQ's that may answer your questions. At this stage it is not about Who you want to vote for, but to be able to do so should you wish when the time comes. You can also register to vote in the European elections. The procedure is very simple you simply go to the town hall in Vrysses and fill in a form. If you would like more information please contact me and I will be happy to meet up for a chat. Also let me know if you would like to be on the mailing list for council issues. You can also find some information about the reasons we should vote here.

Q. Who is entitled to vote in Greece?
A. Anyone from EEC countries who lives/works or owns a property here.

Q. What if I am only here part time?
A. In that case you have to decide whether you wish to register here or in your own country - you cannot vote in both.

Q. What about non EEC nationals?
A. Some of them can register to vote but the rules are slightly different.

Q. What do I need to take with me to the town hall to register?
A. Your passport. If you have a residence permit take that as well but it is not compulsory

Q. What is the cut-off date for registering?
A. The government have extended the deadline until the end of February 2014. Remember that it takes time for the applications to be processed so to be sure you are registered in time for the spring's elections it is better to register sooner if possible.

Q. Can we vote in National elections?
A. No! - Only Local and European elections. In order to vote in National elections you have to take Greek nationality.
