All the villages and towns hold their Easter service. Traditionally at midnight, but with some priests covering several villages the times are flexible! Burning Judas on the bonfire While the service continues Χριστος Ανεστη Breaking the Easter fast with Magyritsa. A soup of offal, rice and egg and lemon sauce Cheese pies Easter lunch - tabbouleh Potato salad ( and other salads) Traditional BBQ with Kontosouvli, lamb, sausages etc Mauro waiting hopefully Saffron buns - A Cornish recipe made with Greek Saffron Strawberry and cream sponge A relaxing day! Happy Easter

Easter in Apokoronas - part 1

The Thursday before Easter is the traditional day for painting Easter Eggs.The syllogos and children of Kalamitsi Amigdali got together and made some beautiful designs :-) Good Friday began with the traditional Good Friday Street Market in Vrysses Lots of fresh fruit and veg. Got everything we needed for Easter weekend for 7 euro! Lovely cheese from local producers. We bought Athotiro and Graviera Lots of general stalls.  I treated myself to some locally made hand cream Plants and flowers Not to mention fresh cooked loukoumades, pies etc - We had two delicious Eccles cakes ( not traditional Greek fayre!) A trip to the garden centre for flowers before heading to the cemeteries to tidy up the graves. Many families were doing the same In the evening was the service of the Epitaphios Around the church Down to the graveyard Blessing the graveyard Then back to the church to pass under the bier f
