Apokoronas Our Home

Once again the community has come together to provide gifts for children in Apokoronas who otherwise would have nothing at Christmas The organisers write: Today we want to tell you we have achieved our goal. There are not enough words to thank all of you who have supported our Appeal to provide shoe boxes for dep rived children in Apokoronas. Many of you have made boxes, some people have donated money, which the team have used to fill the boxes. We received many donations through our 'Just Giving Appeal ' We have bought underwear, socks, toothpaste. toothbrushes pens, notebooks etc, as well as small gifts. There is more to be done.  Polla filakia from , Germma Litsa, Marian, Eleftheria, Heather, Kiki , Honor and Ann As well as many of the village and women's groups in the area, many children have been involved. One particular little boy was so keen to help the less well off children that he gave nearly all his birthday money to provide 5 boxes hims...

On Sunday 20th November the community came together at a Xmas bazaar and sale in aid of the Apokoronas Social Supermarket The Social supermarket supports approximately 400 families in our area and bags of basic foodstuffs are given out once a month. - More often to some families in desperate need. There was a good turnout of buyers and sellers Teas and coffees, soft drinks and beer were available as well as cakes and souvlakis.  Helen and Fred aka "Deep End" provided some musical accompaniment to the proceedings Christmas gifts Walking sticks and local cheese Decorations Jewellery Bric a brac, secondhand bargains and lots more.... Thank you to everyone who took part whether organising, selling or buying. 1973 Euros was raised.

You probably know that the social services department of Apokoronas have a second hand clothes store, but did you know you can buy from there too? Tucked away just of the square at Nippos the volunteers are busy sorting, cleaning, and ironing They supply clothes to families who cannot afford to buy new clothes, via the social workers and supply the second hand shop in Kalyves. Once a week, on a Tuesday between 10 -12, they are open to the public and you can come and browse. Most items are 1 euro each. All of this goes to the social supermarket for the "Feed a Family Fund"   There are evening clothes Mens Childrens women's tops Dresses Clothes are well sorted and are clean and good quality. Trousers They need extra help  - shelves, rails, mirrors if you have anything The small children's clothes are organized by age Shoes even party shoes! If you can help in any way they would be delight...

The volunteers of the Social Supermarket of Apokoronas this week packed 370 bags of dried goods for needy families in our area. More help is needed to cover the number of families in crisis. Shelves before packing. Fairly, but not absolutely full - more is needed Bag packing - mostly pasta, rice and pulses Working Bags packed. Meat and Easter biscuits will be added at the last moment. A few of the volunteers Two sizes of bag - one for single people and couples, the other for families. 270 bags were packed this week. Is there enough? Barely.
