The unused town hall of Georgioupolis

Many of you probably don't even realise that Georgioupolis has a town hall! It is at Kavros on the road that runs parallel with the National highway. It was built by the last administration of the then Municipality of Georgioupolis before the Kallikratis system  joined all the small areas together to make up the Municipality  of Apokoronas. It was finished at about the time it became obsolete.
It is not a pretty building!

The Greek flag is very tatty

Broken window not repaired

Only one office is being used for certain paperwork, and some of the maintenance crew park their vehicles there and meet up in the mornings before going out on the road. It is also occasionally used for Greek lessons

Lots of unused offices

Meeting rooms

What can be done with this building?
One of the ideas of the Mayor elect, Mr. Koukianakis, is to turn it into a Technical college specializing in tourism and agriculture so that the young people of the Apokoronas area can gain knowledge and qualifications without leaving to study in Heraklion or Athens. He has already begun enquiries into the feasibility of this plan, funding etc so we hope to have more news on this soon.
